April 12, 2017
The scheduled closing of the Shirktown Road bridge over the Conestoga River in Caernarvon Township, Lancaster County, has been postponed to Monday, April 17. Shirktown road is officially designated as State Route 1019. The bridge was previously scheduled to close on Wednesday, April 12.
Since the beginning of April, preliminary work on the bridge has involved daytime traffic lane restrictions and overnight closures. Demolition of the existing structure will get underway after the bridge is completely closed to traffic on April 17, and motorists will be detoured around the bridge closure by way of Route 10 (Twin County Road) and Route 23 (Main Street). The new bridge should be built and open to traffic by late-June.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-262 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
