The scheduled closing of the Route 641 (Newville Road) bridge over Newburg Run in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, has been rescheduled to begin on Monday, September 10. It was previously scheduled to close on Tuesday, September 4, as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
When the bridge closes for full replacement, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Route 997 (Cumberland Highway/Enola Road) and Route 641 (Newburg Road). The bridge is anticipated to be complete in late November.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may still change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-573 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
