The SR 381 bridge over Laughlintown Run in Ligonier Township has reopened after nearly three months of reconstruction work, while two more Westmoreland County bridges will be closing next week.
The SR 381 (JV547) crossing reopened this morning, after it was closed to traffic in mid-June. The structure was then completely demolished and replaced with a new bridge designed to last as long as 100 years. The work was performed by Beech Construction Company.
In Ligonier Township, the SR 259 bridge over Coalpit Run (JV544) and the Wilpen Road bridge at Mill Creek (JV552) will close Wednesday, September 9.
All SR 259 traffic will be detoured to SR 1019, Wilpen Road (SR 1017), SR 711 and US 30. The bridge was built in 1950 and carries an average of 665 vehicles per day. The work will be done by CH & D Construction Company.
At Mill Creek, Wilpen Road bridge traffic will be detoured to SR 711, while the work is performed by Allison Park Contractors. That bridge was built in 1928 and carries an average of 575 vehicles per day.
Both detours will be in place until mid-November. A total of eight bridges will be replaced in Westmoreland County this year, with another 12 replaced in 2016 and 2017.
