The Route 956 (South Market Street)
bridge, which spans Branch of Little Neshannock Creek in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, that’s been under construction as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, is complete and open to traffic. Replacement of the bridge allows PennDOT to remove it from Lawrence County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
The bridge reopened to traffic on Friday, June 30. Replacement work was performed by Thomas Construction, Inc. of Grove City, PA.
The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
This bridge is referred to as JV-472 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
