Clearfield, PA – Construction on a Shade Road (Route 1004) bridge in Juniata County is being placed on hold temporarily. Work to replace the bridge began on Monday September 24 as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
The bridge is currently open to traffic, with plans to resume work set for Wednesday, October 10. When work resumes, the bridge will be closed again.
Signs are in place to alert motorists of the new road closure date. During the closure, motorists will be directed to follow a detour along Shade Road (Route 1004), Tennis Park Road (Route 1003) and Route 35 (Main Street).
Completion is expected by mid-November. An average of 640 vehicles use the bridge each day.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-54 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
