Construction for the Route 318 (Mercer West Middlesex Road) bridge, which spans West Branch of Little Neshannock Creek in Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Mercer County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Construction is expected to tentatively begin during the week of June 19 and be completed in late August. During this time, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along South Keel Ridge Road (Route 3011), South Neshannock Road (Route 3037), Route 62 (East State Street) and Flat Road (Route 3039). In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
The bridge is located on Route 318 about 0.2 miles east of the intersection with South Keel Ridge Road and about four miles west of the intersection with Flat Road.
This bridge is referred to as JV-14 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
