Construction for the Route 982 (Latrobe Street) bridge, spanning Ninemile Run in Unity Township, Westmoreland County, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Westmoreland County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Construction is expected to begin during the week of May 22 and be completed in late October. During this time, an alternating traffic pattern will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
During the second phase of construction, a truck detour will be implemented. During this phase, trucks will be directed to follow a detour along Whitney Road (Route 2027), Route 981 (Latrobe Grabicks Taver Road) and Route 30.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-550 and is one out of 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
