Construction for the Route 1012 (Ritchey Bridge Road) bridge, spanning Raystown Branch Juniata River in West Providence Township, Bedford County, started in August 2017 as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Bedford County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
The next stage of construction is expected to begin during the week of July 2. Route 102 will be closed for 5 weeks to complete the roadway tie-ins.
During this time, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Route 1012, Route 1007, Route 30, Route 1008, Township Road 445 (Battleground Hollow Road), and Township Road 495 (French Creek Road). After the road closure is complete, drivers will encounter an alternating single lane controlled by traffic signals for the contractor to complete final construction activities.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-316 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
