September 02, 2016

The bridge that carries Route 116 over Muddy Run in Highland Township, Adams County, will be closed to all traffic starting September 12. Route 116 is also locally known as Fairfield Road.

The bridge closure is necessary for a construction project to replace the bridge which is currently classified as structurally deficient. Built in 1926, about 4,000 vehicles cross over it on a daily basis.

Motorists are advised that traffic will be detoured by way of Carrolls Tract Road/ Orrtanna Road (SR 3011) Knoxlyn-Orrtanna Road (State Route 3020), and Knoxlyn Road (SR 3013) to Route 116.

The work will be performed by Walsh Construction II. The bridge is expected to complete by late November. Replacing the bridge will remove it from PennDOT’s list of structurally deficient bridges in Adams County.
