Work to complete final paving on the West Juniata Parkway bridge spanning Wildcat Run in Greenwood Township, Perry County, is scheduled to begin Monday, April 24. West Juniata Parkway is officially designated as State Route 1015.
This final paving work will require the bridge to be closed to all traffic for two weeks -- from Monday, April 24, to Friday, May 5. A detour will direct motorists around by bridge closure by utilizing Route 22/322, Route 34, and West Juniata Parkway (SR 1015). Work includes paving, milling rumbles strips, line striping and applying a polyester polymer concrete (PPC) overlay to the bridge deck.
The polyester polymer concrete (PPC) overlay is one of the final steps in completing box beam bridge projects. The PPC overlay is designed to protect the deck from the wear and tear brought about by Pennsylvania’s harsh winters and reduce the long-term maintenance costs. The polyester material can only be applied when temperatures are consistently above 40 degrees, dry weather is forecasted and after the bridge concrete has cured for at least 30 days.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-291 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
