Construction for a Shade Road (Route 1004) bridge in Juniata County, is scheduled to begin next month as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. The bridge spans Little Lost Creek in Fayette Township. Replacing the bridge allows PennDOT to remove it from the list of bridges in “poor” condition.
The existing 22-foot bridge dates from 1932 and carries an average of 640 vehicles each day.
Construction is expected to begin the week of September 10 and be complete in mid-October. During this time, cars will be directed to follow a detour along Shade Road (Route 1004), Tennis Park Road (Route 1003) and Route 35 (Main Street).
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-54 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
