The start of construction to replace the bridge that carries Route 124 over Cabin Creek in Lower Windsor Township, York County, has been postponed to Monday, September 19. It had been slated to start this week, first on Monday, September 12, and then Wednesday, September 14. Route 124 is also known locally as Abels Road. The bridge, which was originally built in 1927, is currently classified as structurally deficient.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic on Sept. 19. About 2,200 vehicles cross this bridge on a daily basis. Motorists will be detoured around the bridge closure by way of Route 624 (Long Level Road), Route 462 (Lincoln Highway), Cabin Creek Road (State Route 2011) and Miller Spring Road (SR 2025). The bridge should reopen to traffic by late November.
This bridge is referred to as JV-296 out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
